Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is cancer that occurs in the nasopharynx, which is located behind nose and above the back of throat. Nasopharynx carcinoma is difficult to detect early. It is rare tumor arising from the epithelium of the nasopharynx.  A carcinoma is a cancer that starts in epithelial cells which is cells lining the internal and external surfaces of the body. Nasopharynx carcinoma has three types such as keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma, non-keratinizing differentiated carcinoma and undifferentiated carcinoma. Other than that, each of these types is seen more often in some areas of the world than in others. • Epstein-Barr Virus

Epstein-Barr virus is also linked to several rare cancers, including nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
